Avalon cliff fall: man plunges 12 metres

A man is in hospital after he fell 12 metres from a cliff on a Northern Sydney beach.
The 28-year-old man sustained extensive head, chest and limb injuries, when he fell off the cliff at the southern end of Avalon beach, about 1pm (AEST) on Saturday.
“The patient’s injuries suggest he was trying to stop himself sliding down the cliff face before he plunged the final five metres,” Surf Life Saving Director of Rescue Services Steve Faddy said in a statement.”
“Had he fallen the full 12 metres his injuries would have been much more severe, possibly even fatal.”
The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
